Issue #3 - Military Policy
The last major issue of this 1800 election is the military policy. For the better good of this country, Jefferson will implant a small peacetime army and navy if he is elected president. He will also lower military spending. Although it seems like this is a foolish idea because protection is very important, Jefferson has thought this out carefully and there are more important things to put the money towards. The money saved will allow the government to pay the national debt, a bigger and more demeaning issue at the moment. Once that is resolved the government can put time into defense, but that is not the highest priority. A country cannot function if internal, economic issues are not resolved. However, the Federalists, would argue for a large peacetime army and navy, and more spending and effort into defense. Clearly, they do not know what they are talking about because a strong defense does not help the country grow as an economy or function within the strong walls of defense. Thomas Jefferson plans to work very hard to pay off the national debt, and after that he will build up a strong defense for this outstanding, hardworking country, the United States of America.
